Turn off power to the garbage disposal at the breaker
Unplug the unit if it has a plug
Turn off the water supply under the sink
Place a bucket under the sink to catch water
Disconnect the drain trap from the disposal
Disconnect the dishwasher drain hose if attached
Loosen and remove the mounting ring or flange assembly
Support the disposal and twist it off the mounting bracket
Lower the disposal carefully and remove it
Remove any remaining plumber’s putty or sealant
Install a sink drain flange or replacement fitting if needed
Reconnect the drain piping without the disposal
Restore water and check for leaks
Restore power only after confirming everything is secure
