Gather a pedal wrench or 15 mm wrench, depending on the pedal type
Shift the chain onto the smallest chainring for easier access
Position the crank arm so the pedal is forward and level
Identify the pedal threads
Turn the right pedal counterclockwise to loosen and remove it
Turn the left pedal clockwise to loosen and remove it
Apply steady force if the pedals are tight
Use penetrating oil if needed
Remove the pedal completely by hand once it is loose
Repeat for the other pedal
Clean the crank threads after removal
