Wash your hands and the foot with soap and warm water
Clean the area with rubbing alcohol or antiseptic
Use clean tweezers to grip the splinter end and pull it out in the same direction it entered
If the splinter is under the skin, sterilize a needle and gently lift the skin over the tip
Remove the splinter with tweezers once the tip is exposed
Wash the area again after removal
Apply antiseptic ointment
Cover with a clean bandage
Change the bandage daily and keep the area clean
Seek medical help if the splinter is deep, broken, near the eye, or cannot be removed
Seek medical help if there is redness, swelling, pus, fever, or worsening pain
