How To Remove Stitches At Home?

Do not remove stitches at home unless a healthcare professional has told you it is safe to do so

Wash your hands thoroughly with soap and water

Clean the area gently with mild soap and water

Sterilize fine-tipped scissors and tweezers with rubbing alcohol

Check that the wound is fully closed with no redness, swelling, drainage, or opening

Cut the stitch close to the skin on one side

Gently pull the knot out with tweezers

Remove each stitch one at a time

Stop immediately if the wound opens, bleeds, or hurts significantly

Apply a clean bandage if needed

Seek medical care if you are unsure, the wound looks infected, or the stitches are deep or on the face, hands, joints, or genitals
