Rinse your mouth with warm salt water 3–4 times a day
Avoid spicy, acidic, salty, and very hot foods
Drink plenty of water
Use a soft-bristled toothbrush
Avoid alcohol and tobacco
Use over-the-counter oral ulcer gels or protective pastes
Take pain relief medicine if needed, as directed on the label
Eat soft, bland foods until it heals
Avoid biting or irritating the ulcer
Maintain good oral hygiene
See a dentist or doctor if it lasts more than 2 weeks
Seek medical care if it is very large, very painful, keeps returning, or is associated with fever or swelling
