Gather a wallpaper scoring tool, spray bottle or sponge, warm water, dish soap, putty knife, and drop cloth
Protect floors and nearby surfaces with a drop cloth
Turn off power to nearby outlets if needed
Score the border lightly to help water penetrate
Mix warm water with a small amount of dish soap
Saturate the border with the solution using a sponge or spray bottle
Let the solution soak into the border for several minutes
Gently lift an edge with a putty knife
Peel the border off slowly at a low angle
Reapply the solution to stubborn sections
Scrape remaining adhesive with a putty knife
Wash the wall with warm water to remove residue
Let the wall dry completely
Repair any wall damage with spackle if needed
Sand smooth after repairs
Prime and repaint if necessary
