How To Repair Zipper?

Identify the zipper issue (stuck, separated, broken tooth, broken pull tab, jammed fabric)

Stop forcing the zipper

If fabric is stuck: gently pull the fabric out with tweezers or the tip of a butter knife

If the zipper is stuck: rub a dry lubricant (candle wax, lip balm, or soap) along the teeth

If the zipper is stuck: gently work the slider up and down to spread the lubricant

If the zipper won’t close due to misalignment: align the teeth and slowly close while holding the fabric flat

If the zipper separates at the bottom: check that the slider is seated correctly and try closing from the bottom upward

If a tooth is bent: use needle-nose pliers to straighten the bent tooth carefully

If a tooth is missing or damaged: replace the affected section or replace the zipper

If the slider is damaged: replace the slider (or replace the zipper if replacement isn’t practical)

If the pull tab is broken: reattach or replace the pull tab (use a zipper pull replacement or tie a sturdy cord)

If the teeth are not engaging: inspect for bent teeth and realign; if teeth are worn, replace the zipper

If the zipper track is warped: gently straighten the track with pliers (light pressure) or replace the zipper

If the zipper is loose at the ends: secure end stops (replace torn end stops or sew them in place)

If the zipper end stop is missing: add/replace the end stop using a zipper repair kit or sew it securely

If the zipper is on a jacket/bag and repairs fail: replace the entire zipper or take it to a tailor/seamstress

Test by opening and closing slowly several times after each fix
