How to Replace Wheel Bolts?

Park on a level surface and engage the parking brake

Loosen the wheel nuts or bolts slightly before lifting the vehicle

Raise the vehicle with a jack and secure it on jack stands

Remove the wheel

Remove the brake caliper and rotor if needed for access to the hub

Rotate the hub until the damaged bolt lines up with an opening

Strike the end of the damaged bolt with a hammer to drive it out

Remove the old bolt from the hub

Insert the new wheel bolt into the hub from the back side

Pull the new bolt fully into place using a lug nut and washers or a press if required

Reinstall the rotor and brake caliper if removed

Reinstall the wheel

Tighten the wheel nuts or bolts by hand

Lower the vehicle to the ground

Torque the wheel nuts or bolts to the manufacturer’s specification

Recheck the torque after a short drive if recommended
