Choose a healthy bamboo clump or rhizome section with roots and at least one culm
Select a new planting site with well-draining soil and appropriate sunlight
Water the bamboo well before digging
Dig around the bamboo clump carefully to preserve as many roots as possible
Lift the clump or rhizome section from the ground
Trim damaged roots and remove dead canes
Dig a hole twice as wide as the root mass and as deep as the root ball
Place the bamboo in the hole at the same depth it was growing before
Backfill with soil and firm it gently around the roots
Water thoroughly after planting
Add mulch around the base without covering the crown
Keep the soil consistently moist during establishment
Stake tall canes if needed to prevent wind damage
Divide and replant only during the active growing season if possible
Monitor for transplant stress and adjust watering as needed
