How to Report a Drunk Driver?

Call 911 immediately if the driver is actively dangerous or you believe someone is in immediate danger

Pull over safely and do not follow too closely

Note the vehicle’s make, model, color, and license plate number if possible

Record the location, direction of travel, and time

Observe and remember unsafe driving behavior such as swerving, speeding, running lights, or near misses

Keep a safe distance and avoid confronting the driver

If you are a passenger, ask the driver to stop the vehicle safely if possible

Report the driver to local police or highway patrol as soon as it is safe to do so

Provide clear, factual details to dispatch or police

If you are on a highway, use emergency call boxes or roadside assistance if 911 is unavailable

If the driver is in a parking lot or private area, notify security or property management if appropriate

If you are the driver and the suspected drunk driver is behind you, change routes only if it is safe and continue to a public place or police station if needed

Do not attempt to stop the vehicle yourself

If there is a crash, call emergency services immediately and stay at the scene if it is safe to do so
