How to Report Parental Abuse?

If you are in immediate danger, call emergency services now

Go to a safe place if you can

Contact a trusted adult, friend, teacher, counselor, doctor, or neighbor

Tell them exactly what happened, when it happened, and who was involved

Save evidence such as messages, photos, recordings, damaged items, or notes

Write down dates, times, locations, and details of each incident

Report physical abuse, sexual abuse, threats, stalking, neglect, or severe emotional abuse to child protective services or the police

If you are a minor, tell a school counselor, teacher, nurse, coach, or doctor

If you are an adult being abused by a parent, contact local adult protective services, the police, or a domestic violence hotline

Use a hotline or crisis line if you need help deciding what to do next

Ask for a protective order if you are eligible and need legal protection

Keep copies of all reports and case numbers

Avoid confronting the abuser alone if it could put you at risk

Make a safety plan for where you will go and whom you will contact

Seek medical care if you are injured or need documentation

Reach out to a local legal aid service or victim advocacy organization for help
