Turn off the HP device
Disconnect the power cord and any external devices
If it is a laptop, remove the battery if possible
Press and hold the power button for 15 to 30 seconds
Reconnect the power source
Turn the device back on
For an HP laptop, open Settings
Go to System
Select Recovery
Choose Reset this PC
Select Keep my files or Remove everything
Follow the on-screen prompts
For an HP desktop, open Settings
Go to System
Select Recovery
Choose Reset this PC
Select Keep my files or Remove everything
Follow the on-screen prompts
If Windows will not start, restart the HP device
Press Esc repeatedly
Select F11 for System Recovery
Follow the recovery instructions
If needed, use HP Cloud Recovery or recovery media
Back up important files before resetting
