How to Reset Password on MacBook Air?

Restart the MacBook Air

On the login screen, click the question mark or use the password reset option if shown

If available, enter your Apple ID and follow the prompts

If FileVault is enabled, use your recovery key when prompted

If you see a password reset assistant, follow the on-screen steps to create a new password

If you cannot reset from the login screen, restart into macOS Recovery

For Apple silicon, press and hold the power button until Startup Options appear, then select Options

For Intel Mac, restart and hold Command + R

In Recovery, open Utilities and choose Terminal if needed

Type resetpassword and press Return

Follow the Password Reset Assistant to select the user account and set a new password

Restart the MacBook Air and sign in with the new password

If you still cannot reset it, contact Apple Support
