Open Telegram and sign in with the same phone number used for the backup
Check whether the chat was backed up in a cloud service or saved locally on the device
If you used Telegram’s cloud chats, open the app and wait for messages to sync automatically
If you exported chats from Telegram Desktop, locate the exported folder on your computer
Open the exported HTML or JSON files to view the saved chat history
If you backed up your phone with Google Drive or iCloud, restore the device backup first
Reinstall Telegram after restoring the device backup
Verify that the chat appears in the app after the account syncs
If the chat was deleted from Telegram, check whether the other person still has the conversation
Ask the other person to resend important messages if no backup exists
For secret chats, restore is not possible because they are not stored in the cloud
Make sure you are using the same Telegram account and device type when restoring local data
If needed, use Telegram Desktop to access exported chat backups more easily
