Groom and inspect the horse
Place the saddle pad on the horse’s back
Set the saddle gently on top of the pad
Check that the saddle sits evenly and does not pinch
Attach the girth or cinch loosely on both sides
Tighten the girth gradually
Smooth the saddle pad and remove any wrinkles
Check that the saddle is centered and secure
Attach the breastplate or crupper if needed
Recheck the girth before mounting
Walk the horse a few steps and recheck the fit
