How To Scan Negatives?

Clean the negative with a blower or anti-static brush

Place the negative emulsion side down on the scanner glass or in a film holder

Use a dedicated film scanner or a flatbed scanner with a transparency unit

Select the correct film type and frame size in the scanning software

Turn off automatic color correction if you want full manual control

Scan at a high resolution, usually 2400 to 4800 dpi or higher

Save the scan as a high-quality file such as TIFF or PNG

Invert the negative colors in editing software if the scanner does not do it automatically

Adjust exposure, contrast, and white balance after inversion

Crop each frame and remove dust and scratches with retouching tools

Save a final edited copy and keep the original scan as a backup
