Confirm the firearm is unloaded and pointed in a safe direction
Mount the red dot securely and check that all screws are tight
Set the optic to a medium brightness level
Bore sight the optic if possible
Place a target at a known distance, such as 25 yards
Establish a stable shooting position
Fire a controlled group of shots
Note the center of the group relative to the point of aim
Adjust windage and elevation toward the point of impact
Fire another group to confirm the adjustment
Repeat adjustments until the group centers on the target
Verify the zero at your intended distance
Recheck zero after transport, recoil, or optic removal
Confirm the optic remains secure and the battery is functioning
