Wash your hands
Use a clean neti pot
Fill it with sterile, distilled, or previously boiled and cooled water
Add the saline packet or mix the correct saline solution
Stand over a sink
Lean forward and tilt your head to one side
Keep your forehead and chin level
Place the spout gently into the upper nostril
Breathe through your mouth
Pour the solution slowly
Let the water drain out of the lower nostril
Repeat on the other side
Blow your nose gently after use
Clean and dry the neti pot after each use
Use only sterile, distilled, or boiled and cooled water
Stop using it if you feel pain, pressure, or worsening symptoms
