Trim off the stalks and fronds from the bulb
Remove any tough or discolored outer layers
Cut the bulb in half lengthwise through the core
Place each half cut-side down on the board
Slice out the tough triangular core from each half
Cut into thin slices, wedges, or dice as needed
Separate the layers if you want individual pieces
