Turn on the main water supply valve
Check that the backflow preventer is open
Set the controller to the desired program
Make sure the controller has power
Open the sprinkler zone valves if they are manual
Use the controller to start the first watering cycle
Verify that each zone activates properly
Check for leaks, broken heads, or unusual pressure
Adjust run times if needed
Turn the system off using the controller when finished
