Thread the needle and knot the thread end
Bring the needle up through the fabric at the starting point
Insert the needle back into the fabric a short distance ahead
Bring the needle up again a short distance ahead of that point
Insert the needle back into the end of the previous stitch
Repeat the process, keeping stitches even and aligned
Pull the thread snug after each stitch
Continue along the line until finished
Secure the thread on the back with a knot or a few small stitches
