Stop the activity and rest
Gently stretch the cramped muscle
Hold the stretch for 20 to 30 seconds
Massage the muscle
Apply heat to relax the muscle
Apply ice if the area is sore afterward
Drink water or an electrolyte drink
Walk around if the cramp is in your leg or foot
Breathe slowly and relax the muscle
Repeat the stretch if needed
Seek medical help if cramps are severe, frequent, or persistent
