Collect eggs frequently, at least 2–4 times per day
Provide enough nest boxes
Keep nest boxes dark, clean, and comfortable
Use slanted or roll-away nest boxes
Remove cracked or broken eggs immediately
Ensure hens have a balanced diet with enough protein, calcium, and grit
Keep fresh water available at all times
Reduce overcrowding in the coop and run
Keep hens occupied with scratch grains, greens, and pecking toys
Trim overly sharp beaks only if appropriate and legal in your area
Identify and remove egg-eating hens from the flock
Use fake eggs or golf balls in nest boxes
Block access to nests after laying time if needed
Check for stress, boredom, parasites, or illness and address them
Train hens to use designated nesting areas
Keep the coop well ventilated and clean
Avoid feeding eggshells unless they are thoroughly baked, crushed, and mixed into feed only if needed
