Sit upright and lean slightly forward
Pinch the soft part of your nose firmly
Hold constant pressure for 10 to 15 minutes
Breathe through your mouth
Spit out any blood that goes into your mouth
Apply a cold compress to the bridge of your nose
Keep your head above your heart
Do not tilt your head back
Do not lie down
Do not blow your nose
Do not pick or rub your nose
Repeat the pressure for another 10 to 15 minutes if bleeding continues
Use a saline nasal spray or humidifier after the bleeding stops
Seek medical help if bleeding is heavy, lasts longer than 20 minutes, or happens after an injury
