Bend your knees and lower your center of gravity
Keep your feet shoulder-width apart
Use the toe stop if your skates have one
Shift one foot slightly ahead of the other
Press the front toe stop gently into the ground
Drag one skate lightly at an angle to slow down
Turn both skates inward into a V shape to reduce speed
Use a plow stop by pushing your heels out and toes in
Practice the T-stop by placing one skate behind the other
Keep your weight mostly on the front skate during a T-stop
Stop gradually instead of suddenly
Practice on a smooth, open surface
