How To Stop Tongue Bleeding?

Wash your hands

Sit upright and lean slightly forward

Rinse your mouth gently with cold water

Apply firm pressure to the bleeding area with clean gauze or a clean cloth

Hold pressure continuously for 10 to 15 minutes

If needed, use an ice cube or cold compress on the outside of the mouth

Suck on ice chips if the bleeding is mild

Avoid spitting, rinsing forcefully, or checking the wound repeatedly

Avoid hot drinks, alcohol, smoking, and spicy foods

Keep the tongue still and avoid biting it again

If bleeding does not stop after 15 to 20 minutes of firm pressure, seek urgent medical care

Get emergency help if bleeding is heavy, the cut is deep, or breathing is affected

Seek medical care if the injury was caused by a bite, fall, or object and the wound may need stitches

Contact a doctor if you take blood thinners or have a bleeding disorder
