Keep the corners of the mouth clean and dry
Apply a bland barrier ointment such as petroleum jelly frequently
Use an antifungal cream if yeast infection is suspected
Use a mild topical antibiotic if bacterial infection is suspected
Use a short course of low-potency topical steroid only if prescribed
Correct dry lips with regular emollient use
Avoid licking, biting, or picking at the corners of the mouth
Replace irritating toothpaste or lip products if they trigger symptoms
Treat underlying causes such as dentures, saliva pooling, or skin conditions
Correct nutritional deficiencies such as iron, vitamin B12, folate, or riboflavin if present
Manage diabetes or other immune-related conditions if present
Keep dentures clean and properly fitted
Seek medical care if it is severe, recurrent, painful, or not improving
