Remove the cap or attach the Apple Pencil to the iPad, depending on the model
For Apple Pencil Pro or Apple Pencil (2nd generation), attach it to the magnetic connector on the side of the iPad
For Apple Pencil (1st generation), plug it into the iPad’s Lightning or USB-C adapter and connect it
Tap Pair when the pairing prompt appears on the iPad
If needed, charge the Apple Pencil for a few minutes
Start using the Apple Pencil on the iPad screen
