Wash your hands
Hold the front of the earring
Gently pull the backing off, if it is a stud
Twist the backing slightly if it feels stuck
Pull the earring straight out once the backing is removed
For hoop earrings, find the clasp or opening
Unclip or open the hoop carefully
Slide the hoop out of the ear
If the earring is painful or stuck, stop and get help from a professional
