Get your dog to sit first
Hold a treat near your dog’s nose
Move the treat slowly down to the floor between the front paws
Slide the treat forward along the floor
Wait for your dog to lower its elbows and chest
Say “down” as the dog lies down
Give the treat immediately
Praise your dog calmly
Repeat in short training sessions
Practice in different places
Gradually stop using the treat every time
Reward the behavior consistently at first
Keep sessions short and positive
Never force your dog into position
