Choose a quiet, distraction-free area
Have small, tasty treats ready
Stand in front of your dog
Hold a treat close to your dog’s nose
Move the treat slowly upward and slightly back over the head
Wait for your dog’s bottom to lower to the ground
Say “sit” as the dog begins to sit
Give the treat immediately when the dog sits
Praise your dog calmly
Repeat several times in short sessions
Practice a few times each day
Gradually reduce treat use
Reward only when the dog sits on command
Keep sessions positive and brief
Stop if your dog becomes frustrated or distracted
