Fill a bowl or glass with enough cold water to fully cover the egg
Gently place the egg in the water
If the egg sinks and lies flat on the bottom, it is fresh
If the egg sinks but stands upright or tilts, it is older but may still be usable
If the egg floats, it is bad and should be discarded
Crack the egg into a separate bowl before using if you are unsure
