Look at the hour hand first
Look at the minute hand second
The short hand shows the hour
The long hand shows the minutes
If the minute hand points to 12, it is exactly on the hour
If the minute hand points to 3, it is 15 minutes past
If the minute hand points to 6, it is 30 minutes past
If the minute hand points to 9, it is 45 minutes past
Count by fives for each number on the clock
Read the hour number the short hand has passed
Read the minutes by counting the marks or numbers
Check whether it is AM or PM
