Turn off power to the circuit or device
Set the multimeter to continuity mode
Insert the black probe into COM
Insert the red probe into the V/Ω port
Touch the probe tips together to verify the meter works
Place one probe on each end of the wire, fuse, switch, or component
Read the result on the display or listen for the beep
A beep or very low resistance indicates continuity
No beep or high resistance indicates no continuity
Move the probes slightly if needed to check for intermittent continuity
Remove the probes after testing
Restore power only after the test is complete
