Stir the latex paint thoroughly
Check the manufacturer’s label for thinning instructions
Add a small amount of water, about 1 to 2 tablespoons per gallon
Mix well after each addition
Test the paint flow on a scrap surface
Add more water only if needed
Keep total thinning minimal to avoid reducing coverage
Strain the paint if needed to remove lumps
Use the thinned paint promptly
Clean tools with water after use
