Check that the new phone is compatible with your carrier and network
Make sure your old phone and new phone are both charged
Back up your contacts, messages, photos, and other important data
Remove the SIM card from the old phone
Insert the SIM card into the new phone
If using an eSIM, contact your carrier or use the carrier app to transfer it
Turn on the new phone and follow the setup steps
Sign in with your Apple ID or Google account if needed
Enable contacts sync so your number and contacts appear on the new phone
Test calling and texting to confirm the number works
Contact your carrier if the number does not activate automatically
