Rest the injured area
Avoid activities that cause pain
Apply ice for 15–20 minutes at a time, several times a day
Elevate the injured area when possible
Use compression if recommended and comfortable
Take over-the-counter pain relievers if safe for you
Limit weight-bearing if the bruise is in the leg or foot
Use crutches, a brace, or support if prescribed
Follow your healthcare provider’s instructions
Seek medical care if pain is severe, swelling worsens, or symptoms do not improve
Get urgent care if you cannot bear weight, have numbness, or suspect a fracture
