How To Treat A New Tattoo?

Keep the bandage on for the time your tattoo artist recommends

Wash your hands before touching the tattoo

Gently clean the tattoo with lukewarm water and mild, fragrance-free soap

Pat the tattoo dry with a clean paper towel

Apply a thin layer of fragrance-free tattoo aftercare ointment or unscented moisturizer

Wash and moisturize the tattoo 2 to 3 times a day, or as directed by your artist

Avoid picking, scratching, or peeling any scabs or flakes

Avoid soaking the tattoo in baths, pools, hot tubs, lakes, or oceans

Avoid direct sunlight and tanning beds

Wear loose, clean clothing over the tattoo

Avoid heavy sweating and intense exercise if possible during early healing

Do not use alcohol, hydrogen peroxide, or harsh products on the tattoo

Keep the tattoo clean and lightly moisturized until fully healed

Contact a doctor if you notice spreading redness, severe swelling, pus, fever, or worsening pain
