Keep the area clean and dry
Gently wash with warm water

Retract the foreskin gently if uncircumcised and rinse underneath
Dry thoroughly after washing
Avoid sexual activity until symptoms improve
Use condoms to reduce irritation and infection risk
Apply an over-the-counter antifungal cream if a yeast infection is suspected
Use a mild topical steroid only if prescribed by a clinician
Take prescribed antibiotics if a bacterial infection is diagnosed
Take prescribed antiviral medicine if herpes is the cause
Stop using any product that may be causing irritation or allergy
Wear loose-fitting cotton underwear
Manage diabetes if present
Seek medical care if symptoms are severe, recurrent, or do not improve
Get urgent care for fever, inability to urinate, severe swelling, or worsening pain
