Withhold food for 12–24 hours if your dog is an adult and otherwise healthy

Monitor for vomiting, blood in stool, lethargy, fever, or worsening diarrhea
Contact a veterinarian if diarrhea lasts more than 24–48 hours
Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog is a puppy, senior, or has other health problems
Contact a veterinarian immediately if your dog shows signs of dehydration
Contact a veterinarian immediately if there is black stool, bloody stool, or severe abdominal pain
Follow your veterinarian’s instructions for any prescribed medications
Do not give human anti-diarrheal medicines unless directed by a veterinarian
