Do not try to drain or cut it open at home
Keep your dog from shaking or scratching the ear
Use an e-collar or cone
Apply a cold compress to the swollen ear for 10 to 15 minutes at a time, several times a day
Keep the ear clean and dry
Check for signs of ear infection, allergies, or parasites
Contact a veterinarian as soon as possible
Follow the vet’s treatment plan exactly
Give only medications prescribed by a vet
Do not use human pain relievers
Monitor for worsening swelling, pain, heat, discharge, or odor
Seek urgent veterinary care if the ear becomes very painful, bleeds, or your dog seems unwell
