Identify and treat the underlying cause
Recheck chloride with repeat blood tests
Correct dehydration with appropriate fluid replacement

Treat diarrhea, vomiting, or other fluid losses
Manage kidney disease or kidney injury
Control diabetes and diabetic ketoacidosis if present
Correct acid-base imbalances under medical supervision

Limit excess salt intake if advised by a clinician
Seek urgent care for severe symptoms, confusion, weakness, or breathing problems
