Seek urgent medical care for suspected kidney infection
Take prescribed antibiotics exactly as directed
Finish the full antibiotic course
Drink plenty of fluids unless told otherwise by a doctor
Rest as much as possible
Use acetaminophen for fever or pain if approved by a doctor
Avoid alcohol
Avoid caffeine if it worsens symptoms
Do not take leftover antibiotics or someone else’s antibiotics
Go to the emergency room for severe pain, vomiting, high fever, confusion, or inability to keep fluids down
Follow up with a doctor after treatment
Get immediate medical help if symptoms worsen or do not improve within 24 to 48 hours
