Isolate affected chickens
Wear gloves and wash hands after handling
Clean and disinfect the coop, roosts, nest boxes, and equipment
Remove all bedding and replace with fresh, dry bedding
Treat chickens with a poultry-safe mite treatment labeled for use on chickens
Apply treatment to all birds in the flock, not just the visibly affected ones
Repeat treatment exactly as directed on the product label
Dust or spray cracks, crevices, and roost joints in the coop
Treat nesting areas and surrounding housing surfaces
Check and treat the birds at night if needed, when mites are most active
Inspect birds regularly for mites, scabs, feather loss, and pale combs
Improve coop ventilation and reduce moisture
Keep litter clean and dry
Quarantine new birds before adding them to the flock
Consult a veterinarian if the infestation is severe or if birds are weak, anemic, or not improving
