How to Treat Sour Crop in Chickens?

Isolate the affected chicken

Remove all feed for 12 to 24 hours

Provide fresh, clean water only

Add electrolytes or probiotics to the water if available

Gently massage the crop to help it empty

Check the crop first thing in the morning

Keep the bird warm and quiet

Clean the chicken’s beak and feathers if needed

Offer small amounts of soft, easily digestible food after the crop empties

Inspect for signs of impacted crop, yeast infection, or foreign material

Seek veterinary care if the crop stays full, smells foul, or the bird becomes weak

Do not force-feed the chicken

Do not give food until the crop is empty and functioning normally
