Prune grape vines in late winter or early spring while dormant
Remove dead, damaged, or diseased wood first
Keep one or two strong canes for fruiting
Cut back last year’s growth to the desired number of buds
Remove weak, thin, or crowded shoots
Keep the main trunk and permanent arms intact
Use clean, sharp pruning shears or loppers
Make cuts just above a healthy bud
Remove suckers growing from the base
Thin out excess side shoots during the growing season
Keep vines trained on a trellis or support
Leave enough space for sunlight and airflow
Disinfect tools between plants if disease is present
Dispose of pruned material properly
