Use sterilized scissors or pruning shears
Remove dead, yellow, or brown leaves at the base
Cut off spent flower spikes after blooms fade
For moth orchids, trim the spike above a healthy node if it is still green
Cut brown or dry spikes all the way down to the base
Remove dead roots when repotting
Keep healthy roots that are firm and green or silver
Trim only damaged or diseased parts
Avoid cutting healthy green leaves
Sterilize tools before and after trimming
