How To Tune A Guitar?

Tune to standard pitch (E A D G B E)

Use a guitar tuner (clip-on or app) or a reference pitch

Tune the low E string first to E (82.41 Hz)

Tune the A string to A (110.00 Hz)

Tune the D string to D (146.83 Hz)

Tune the G string to G (195.998 Hz)

Tune the B string to B (246.942 Hz)

Tune the high E string to E (329.63 Hz)

If tuning by ear, use a known reference and match each string’s pitch

Adjust tuning pegs slowly and in small increments

After each adjustment, pluck the string and re-check with the tuner

Ensure the string is seated correctly at the nut and bridge

Stretch new strings gently, then re-tune

Re-tune after playing for a few minutes to account for settling

Check tuning after changing temperature or humidity

Use the correct tuning for your song (e.g., drop D, half-step down)

Verify intonation by checking fretted notes at 12th fret (optional)

Set intonation using saddle screws if open-string tuning is correct but 12th-fret pitch is off

Confirm action and string gauge match your setup (optional)

Replace worn or stretched strings when tuning won’t hold
