Windows: press Ctrl + =
Mac: press Command + =
In Microsoft Word, select the text first, then apply subscript
In Google Docs, use Format > Text > Subscript
In HTML, use `text`
In LaTeX, use `_` in math mode
On a phone keyboard, use the text formatting options if available
