Connect the Kindle to Wi-Fi
Tap the menu or Settings icon
Select Device Options or All Settings
Tap Advanced Options or Update Your Kindle
If an update is available, select Update
Wait for the Kindle to download and install the update
Keep the Kindle charged during the update
Restart the Kindle if prompted
If no update appears, check Amazon’s Kindle software update page
Download the correct update file for your Kindle model
Connect the Kindle to a computer with a USB cable
Copy the update file to the Kindle’s root folder
Safely eject the Kindle from the computer
On the Kindle, open Settings and select Update Your Kindle
Wait for the installation to finish and the device to restart
